Rated 5 out of 5 by from Imagination instructions! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this for my 4.5yr old son and I think it’s his most-player-with Lego toy. The instructions are video from an app and kept him engaged and building it in his own for SO much longer than he normally does. More than anything though, the instructions give you creative freedom on building it along the way! They’ll give you a few different ideas but the final build is original and your own. The boy hasn’t put it down for two weeks straight so it’s already worth it’s weight in $$. I’ll definitely be looking for this series again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never again I will be very careful not to buy a Lego set without paper instructions ever again. My daughter enjoys playing with Lego a lot, but she was only slightly less annoyed than me with the app. She would skip the missions/animations just to get to the instructions. I am not buying Lego for my child so that she can interact with phone. We are both very disappointed. On top of that, the app won't load mission 6 because of some error. "try again now or later". And of course there are no pdf instructions available. I understand you are "looking to explore new ways to play" but this is not a good path.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like these however [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I dislike so much you HAVE TO HAVE THE APP or access to a computer or whatever. I dislike it so much. The app is comparisons with apple and android; however my son that these are always intended for; has a fire tablet and those are special I guess. The instructions were very easy but it’s also very annoying.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dislike I was really disappointed it did not come with instructions and requires the use of a device. Kids this age do t have their own devices or maybe the experience to navigate and do independently. I invest in Legos because of the visual-spatial skills it helps develop and just felt a part was lost in the use of my phone. Did it keep my son's attention but he also enjoys looking and studying over the instruction booklets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pure Childlike Joy in LEGO Form! I don't often write reviews, but this “City Missions” set got me in touch with my inner child like no other LEGO set has. I found myself rebuilding the space shuttle again and again for over 4 hours, trying out different combinations of the included pieces, and supplementing them with some from my own collection. I think it is a perfect statement of LEGO’s greatest strengths: creativity, imagination, and endless re-buildability. As an adult LEGO hobbyist, I cannot understate the pure joy I felt with playing with this set. It is bursting with fun pieces to spark your imagination, and while the app is definitely designed for kids, the way it presents building ideas for each challenge instead of definitive instructions is the perfect way to encourage your own creativity! As a side note, the music and presentation on the app are fantastic! I cannot wait for future missions sets!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great variety of pieces I like these mission packs. They do not have a lot of "bulk" pieces like bricks and plates, but the pieces you get tend to be either unique (like the printed pieces or the shiny geodes) or functional in some way. For this reason I think this would not make for a good standalone set but is a great way of adding spark and complexity to a set you already own. Also, no stickers, and I am blown away by the immaculate detail of these new printed pieces!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Somewhat Unwelcome Departure from LEGO My 5 year old loves building LEGOs and is a very proficient solo builder of sets this size. These new Missions sets mean he HAS to access the app, which is annoying. I understand this is the way things are going, but he doesn't have his own tablet, so he needs to use a parent's phone to build these sets. Additionally, he wants to get straight to building and really doesn't love the missions aspect. Obviously LEGO encourages creativity and this is a neat way to do it, but when my son gets a set, he is eager to make it as instructed and that's just not really possible with these sets. If he ever takes this apart and wants to rebuild, there are no traditional instructions available. You have to do the full mission again! If there were full instructions available online for the main part of each set---the spaceship in this set (I understand there wouldn't be instructions for the smaller items) after you do the missions, that would be enough for me to give this an overall 5 stars. That said, this is pretty creative and I'm sure it's a lot of fun for a lot of people. Just be forewarned that you have to use the app, and it takes longer than usual to build since the missions have you create small items of your own design along the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We love legos [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love Legos And this set was also super cool we have been getting more and more of the Lego city kits to build. My only gripe is that you have to download an app in order to get the instructions on how to build. I understand the importance of being a little more eco-friendly however it was kind of a pain to have to download the app. But the app itself was interactive and fun for my child
